Carmen Săpunaru Tămaș is a Romanian anthropologist whose research focuses on the relationship between Japanese myths and contemporary society. She has done extensive work on Japanese festivals as the stage of re-enacted myths, as well as the relationship between drag performances and ritual laughter.
