Maarten Michielse is a PhD candidate at Maastricht University (Netherlands). His research project ‘Rearticulating Sounds’ focuses on the ways in which audiences appropriate popular music online by remixing, covering, and mashing-up existing songs and sharing them on online platforms. Michielse holds a research MA degree in Arts and Visual Culture and BA degrees in Cultural Studies and Journalism.
