Runchao Liu is a PhD Candidate in Communication Studies at the University of Minnesota. Liu specializes in critical/cultural media studies through the lens of popular music in a comparative and transnational approach. Her scholarship weaves together feminist and queer studies, critical race/ethnicity studies, sound and affect, performative activism, and intercultural communication. She is currently on a dissertation fellowship working on her project titled Sounding Orientalism: Sonic Affect, Musical Radicals, and Countercultural Troubles.
